How to Apply
Applying to UUNZ is straightforward. Follow the steps below — and if you have questions at any point, our admissions team is here to help.
Your Step-by-Step Guide
Choose your programme
Browse our programmes and decide which one is right for you. Consider your current English level, your goals, and how long you'd like to study. Not sure? Contact us and we'll advise you.
Check entry requirements
Review the entry requirements for your chosen programme and confirm you have the necessary documentation. Our admissions team can assess your English level if you're unsure.
Submit your application
Complete the application form below or email your documents to info@uunz.ac.nz. Include your passport copy, English proficiency evidence, and any other required documents.
Receive your offer letter
Once we've reviewed your application (usually within 3–5 business days), we'll send you a formal Offer of Place and an Enrolment Agreement. Review these documents carefully.
Accept and pay your deposit
Sign and return your Enrolment Agreement and pay the required deposit to confirm your place. Your offer letter will detail the deposit amount and payment instructions.
Fee protection: Your fees are paid into an independent trust — not directly to UUNZ. The independent trust ensures that your fees are safe and that NZQA's rules are followed.
Apply for your student visa
Use your signed Enrolment Agreement and Offer of Place to apply for a New Zealand Student Visa through Immigration New Zealand. We can provide a support letter and guidance.
- Apply via the Immigration New Zealand website
- Allow 4–8 weeks for visa processing
- Contact us if you need a support letter
Arrange accommodation & travel
We can assist with homestay placement and airport pickup. Let us know your arrival details and we'll make sure someone is there to meet you.
Arrive, orientate, and begin your studies
Orientation is held on the Friday before your course starts — a full induction where you'll meet staff and classmates, tour the campus, receive your student materials, and get settled before classes begin on Monday. We also encourage students to complete our short pre-departure online orientation course before arriving in Auckland. Welcome to the UUNZ family!
Required Documents
General English has a rolling intake, with start dates available most weeks.
NZCEL programmes have five intakes a year — see the Academic Calendar.
Tell us your preferred start date in your application, or contact us and we will confirm the next available date for your programme.
Apply at least 6–8 weeks before your preferred start date to allow time for your visa application.
Visa Information
Most international students will need a New Zealand Student Visa. Here's what you need to know.
If you are an international student (not a New Zealand or Australian citizen or resident), you will generally need a Student Visa to study in New Zealand. The visa allows you to study full-time at UUNZ and, depending on your study load, may also allow limited part-time work.
Citizens of some countries may be eligible for a working holiday visa or other visa types. Contact Immigration New Zealand or our admissions team for advice specific to your situation.
- Valid passport
- Signed Enrolment Agreement and Offer of Place from UUNZ
- Evidence of sufficient funds (bank statements)
- Completed visa application form (online via Immigration NZ)
- Passport-sized photo
- Evidence of medical insurance (or purchase through Immigration NZ)
- Any health or character declarations required
UUNZ will provide you with the institutional documents you need. Contact us once you have your Offer of Place and we'll guide you through the visa application.
Processing times vary depending on your country of residence and the time of year. As a general guide, allow 4–8 weeks for student visa processing. During peak periods (November–February), processing may take longer.
We recommend applying for your student visa as soon as you have received and accepted your Offer of Place from UUNZ.
Under a standard Student Visa, international students studying full-time may work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and full-time during scheduled holidays. This policy is subject to change — always check current Immigration New Zealand guidelines.
For operational detail on visa work conditions, IRD numbers and finding work in New Zealand, see immigration.govt.nz, ird.govt.nz and NauMai NZ.
If your student visa is declined after you have accepted your offer and paid a deposit, please contact UUNZ immediately. In most cases, we will defer your place to the next available intake while you resolve your visa situation. Our refund policy is detailed in your Enrolment Agreement.
