CITRENZ 2013 Annual Conference
We are pleased to announce that one of UUNZ’s research team members, Professor Kay Fielden has been accepted for CITRENZ 2013 Conference in her submission paper titled “Collaborative Development for Online Assessment”.
CITRENZ 2013 Annual Conference is an international event to be held in Hamilton in October 2013. It is rated as the premiere computing education conference in New Zealand sponsored by Computing and Information Technology Research and Education New Zealand (CITRENZ). This annual conference serves as a forum for the discussion and exchange of information on research, teaching and practice on all topics related to Computing and Information Technology research, education and practice. The conference regularly attracts more than 100 attendees from over New Zealand as well as international delegates.
In her paper, a multi-stakeholder case study is described in which an online examination for a second year undergraduate computing paper at a New Zealand tertiary institution was developed collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. The author felt that because students were studying computing, moving the examination online would align better with both the content and style of what they were learning. Online assessment provides learning opportunities to students that are not available in traditional paper-based assessment methods, especially end-of-semester examinations. One of the findings from this study is that the regulatory systems for governing the conduct of end-of-semester examinations constrained possible learning benefits for students. Her paper will be published in the UUNZ’s own journal, the Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Business (APJMB) after the conference is over.
